Fabricators In Bloom

The Story of Cannibal Flower

Rebecca Nabarrete – Director

At 10 I started taking art seriously and began to attend community college figure drawing classes.  My passion for creativity always coincided with a love for art history.  At that age I romanticized Bohemian Paris in the 1900’s. Later I attended Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. After high school I became completely obsessed with the 1980s New York art scene, the graffiti movement, Andy Warhol, Basquiat & Keith Harring.

A dream of mine was always to attend art school, and from 2005-2008 I attended The School Of The Art Institute of Chicago, with a focus on painting & video. After graduating, my day job was video editing, and later filming & editing weddings. I’ve also had 3 solo art shows, and been in roughly 30 group art shows, not including also participating in around 20 Downtown LA Art Walks.

I would say I’m enamored with LA’s art scene. Since graduating from art school I’ve taken around 1,500 pictures of paintings at various galleries in Los Angeles because I wanted to network with art dealers and strengthen my symbolism. Part of maturing as a career artist is reading press releases and getting to know the gallery scene. I was always immensely impressed with Thinkspace, and how LC broke the mold among art dealers, by being open to mentoring and holding portfolio reviews. Los Angeles’ art scene is vibrant and recognized on a global level and I think it’s worth documenting.

Up to this point I find there are fascinating narratives that come about during portfolio reviews. I’m thankful to be working with a crew with broadcast experience.
